Lando Norris Tops Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has beaten his teammate at each of the previous five race weekends.
Lando Norris edged out team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the top spot in the dying seconds of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who took the championship lead from his teammate by a single point after his victory in Mexico City a fortnight back, outpaced the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren for most of the session before sprint qualifying set to begin at 6:30 PM GMT.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in the championship fight, trailing 36 points behind Norris, was classified in 17th place as his Red Bull team opted for a different programme.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to crash, albeit lightly, when he spun at Turn Four soon after starting.
Tsunoda slid over the exit kerbs before sliding over the gravel trap, and was lucky to avoid just a slight brush of the wall.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the very end of the session, rotating twice through the fast downhill corner leading to the last turn on to the start-finish straight.
Hamilton wrapped up in 19th place, trailing teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were well clear of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's car in third, 0.619 seconds behind Piastri's best.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' George Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
